Emergency Assistance

Owning a pet comes with the responsibility of caring for it in many ways including the financial commitment to provide it with proper nourishment, containment and medical attention. All pet owners should be prepared for medical bills including medical emergencies. We understand that sometimes this can be a difficult task, especially in a tough economy.

Medical/Financial Assistance

The APA SPCA Pet Medical Emergency Assistance program is separated into four categories.

Please note, it requires a great deal of our time to process applications, please select the proper program for which you will qualify. If you do not qualify for the program you applied for, you will not be considered for another program.

Select the program that is right for you.

The APA SPCA Pet Medical Emergency Crisis Program provides assistance in the following circumstances;

  • The Pet Owner must have a verifiable financial crisis that has occurred recently and was not caused by the Pet Owner.
  • The care needed must be a medical emergency.
  • The Medical Emergency must not have been caused by neglect, or irresponsible pet ownership.
  • The Pet Owner must have exhausted all resources to pay for the medical care themselves.
  • The Pet Owner must be able to pay part of the medical bills themselves.

There are two types of assistance offered;

  • Short term loans
  • Grants

How serious is this issue? Can you imagine the stress of being out of work or facing a medical issue that leaves you debilitated? THEN, your pet gets sick or injured and you cannot afford the bill. The only choice is to put the animal down. This is not only a loved and treasured part of your family, but one of your most important stress relievers, and friends. Next to losing a human family member, it can be the most devastating event a person can face. It should happen to NO ONE, EVER.

This program is currently available only in APA SPCA funded communities. Please email us to see if your community is funded.
